On Wednesday 3 March 2021, from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., in meeting room on the 10th floor of the Kasetsart Golden Jubilee Administration and Information Center Building, Kasetsart University. Assistant Professor Dr. Kampanat PENSUPAR, Vice President for International Affairs honorably attended at the TAIST – Tokyo Tech Virtual Graduation Ceremony on behalf of Kasetsart University. On this occasion, Dr. Chadamas THUVASETHAKUL, Executive Vice President of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) presided over and delivered the Opening Remarks. The event was organized by the Thailand Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (TAIST) and Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech). Assistant Professor Dr. Kampanat PENSUPAR, Vice President for International Affairs has been invited to attend and deliver a 5 minutes a Greeting Speech at the Graduation Ceremony along with representatives of 4 leading Thai educational institutes consisting of Associate Professor Dr. Somyot KIATWANICHWILAI, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), Professor Dr. Pruettha NANAKORN, Director of Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT), Associate Professor Dr. Suvit SAE TIA, President of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), and Professor Dr. Banchong MAHAISAVARIYA, President of Mahidol University. In 2020, there are totally 42 students graduated with a master’s degree, 13 of which are from Kasetsart University students, 3 of them graduated in the field of Information and Communication Technology for Embedded Systems: ICTES and 10 graduated in the field of Sustainable Energy and Resources Engineering: SERE.

TAIST-Tokyo Tech (hereafter “TAIST”) was established in 2007 at the request of the Thai government, which sought to foster development of technically innovative human resources who can solve problems caused by rapid industrialization and contribute to sustainable development. Since its establishment, approximately 50 students each year have graduated from TAIST. The program’s alumni have gained employment not only with Japanese and Thai companies but also with universities and research institutes in Thailand. Some have advanced to doctoral programs at universities in Japan, including Tokyo Tech, and in the West. These alumni are strengthening ties between academia and industry, and between Japan, Thailand, and neighboring Asian nations. Since then, there are totally 423 TAIST-Tokyo Tech graduates.

Thailand Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (TAIST) and Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) Scholarship Program is based on the idea of collaboration among National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and partner universities in Thailand and a foreign institution to develop the Thai human resources; with the cooperation of Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech), King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT), King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Kasetsart University (KU) and Mahidol University (MU). It is expected that several similar collaborations will be established in the future.

Currently, TAIST offers three programs which, capitalizing on Tokyo Tech’s strengths, fit the needs of the Thai industrial sector:

Automotive and Advanced Transportation Engineering (A2TE)

Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things (AIoT)

Sustainable Energy and Resources Engineering (SERE)

A student enroll at one of partner universities acting as hosts. In the first year, students are expected to enroll in courses taught mainly by professors from Tokyo Tech. All first year students receive full scholarships for tuitions and fees. In the second year, researches for dissertations will be carried out mainly in NSTDA various laboratories with NSTDA researchers acting as supervisors or co-supervisors. The second year students are expected to receive scholarships for tuitions and fees from research projects of their supervisors. Professors from Tokyo Tech will actively participate in the educational process of the students throughout each program. After a successful completion of both course work and thesis, the students will receive degrees from the host universities.
